Summer 2018 sees Jo Elms returning to the UK to perform music from her upcoming new e.p.. (as yet unnamed) as a follow-up to her debut e.p ‘The Right Time’.
British born Jo Elms is a singer songwriter whose dynamic acoustic style blends together her love of jazz and soul music with her Celtic heritage. Since migrating to New Zealand when she was 3, Jo has spent her professional career performing between New Zealand, Australia and London.
Jo’s had a top ten single in New Zealand, won awards for her original compositions in the 25th Australian National Song writing Contest and twice at the Musicoz awards and has given electric performances at The Manly International Jazz Festival, The Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues Festival, The Norfolk Island Jazz Festival, The New Zealand International Jazz and Blues Festival and the Java Jazz Festival held in Jakarta Indonesia alongside Chaka Khan, Jamie Cullum and Level 42.
Jo has also composed songs for the hit children’s TV series ‘As The Bell Rings’ (Disney Channel). Other credits include a lead role in ‘The Official Tribute to the Blues Brothers’, a featured role in the hit TV series ‘Hercules’.
Jo’s performances have seen her grace international stages; The Claridges Hotel in London with Dame Edna Everage, London’s legendary live music venue The Bedford, The Regal Room-London, with London power-show ‘The Battle of the Divas’, and as part of the London show case for Australian talent based in the U.K ‘Sunday At The Apartment’ alongside Australian star Tim Minchin.
In New York, Jo performed at the city’s famous venue ‘Arlene’s Grocery’ with a star-studded band featuring Ben Butler on guitar (George Michael) and Matt Beck on Piano (Matchbox Twenty).
“It’s not often you get the whole package in one artist, but Jo comes gift wrapped. A wonderful musician, songwriter and lyricist, she has a charismatic, natural stage presence. So professional, and possessed of a captivating and versatile voice that demands to be listened to.” Jim Shipstone, Former-Managing Director BMG Music
“Jo Elms is one of the most gifted musicians, singers and songwriters I have ever met. Her natural ability to craft a rich, soulful lead vocal in literally one take is astounding and a producers dream to work with.” Sven Tydeman, Music Producer Kittygroove Productions
“From her first notes, she showed us lots of tricks and turns to shape the music into a rococo display. Single notes were taken hold of, stretched, and shimmered. Sequences spun, catching and twisting within the framework laid down by the rhythm section” John Reid – The Press
“Her live performance style captures your attention from the get-go as she pours her heart and soul into every note of every song. Jo’s engaging and friendly personality comes across so strongly you feel you know her well, particularly after listening to her emotive lyrics.” Georgina Reed – Northside radio FM99.3 Rhythm & Jazz Radio
