“A singer with propulsive timing, strong presence and intimate insight.” – John Fordham, The Guardian
“Nicki, who haunts and inspires many of my songs.” – Fran Landesman
Born and raised in Bath, Nicki Leighton-Thomas also lived in Mauritius and Paris before studying at drama school and moving to London. Her first album Forbidden Games (Candid, 2011) was The Evening Standard’s Album of the Week and received 4* reviews in The Guardian and The Times. Nicki’s vocals can be heard on work ranging from artists such as Gary Husband and Belinda Carlisle.
“The poet and legendary lyricist FRAN LANDESMAN was a wonderful friend and mentor to me until her death in 2011. Known for being part of the Beat Generation in 1950’s New York, she hung out with Jack Kerouac, Lenny Bruce, Alan Ginsberg, Miles Davis and had her songs recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, Roberta Flack (88 different artists on Spotify).
During my time working with her she wrote over 300 more lyrics with composer Simon Wallace (she wrote 2 songs about me) and I’ve just released a second album of some of these new songs.”

“…swinging and waspish… some gloriously wanton outpourings. Leighton-Thomas oozes slinky menace… luscious slow blues, stingy guitar and rippling tenor sax…” 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Jim Gilchrist – The Scotsman
“How great that singer Nicki Leighton-Thomas has joined forces with Wallace… it’s a match made in smoky bohemian heaven, the singer’s intimate delivery pitch perfect for Landesman’s coquettishly crafted confessionals. Dave O’Higgins’s blue-washed tenor sax seals the deal.” 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Gary Booth – BBC Music Magazine
“… assured, engaging and astute… Traversing Jazz, blues and pop… Leighton-Thomas delivers with her customary lustrous timbre, rhythmic subtlety and telling eye for detail.” 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Peter Quinn – Jazzwise Magazine
