“Breezy, carefree and unpretentious songwriting…” CLASH

After the indefinite hiatus in 2013 of popular UK alt-country outfit ahab, songwriter Steven Llewellyn went on to form his own band with the help of ahab originator Dave Burn and former bassist Graham Knight.

Being firmly part of the London Americana scene made it easy to get involved in collaborations with members of bands like Danny & The Champions of The World, who’s drummer Steve Brookes, having already toured heavily with ahab, quickly became a permanent member of Orphan Colours, along with Fred Abbott, lead guitarist with Noah & the Whale.

The band have some impressive credentials with writers Llewellyn and Burn honing their songwriting craft during their tenure with ahab, who swiftly built a reputation as an unmissable live act after their electric performances almost every major UK festival, and subsequent tours in Scandinavia, Germany & Australia.

The band have recently released their debut album ‘All on Red’ on popular independent label At The Helm Records – and is already attracting incredible reviews (**** MAVERICK).

With an already established fanbase, huge critical acclaim and solid underground credibility so firmly ensconced in their DNA, Orphan Colours have rapidly established themselves as one of the hottest bands to emerge from the London Country/Roots circuit in recent years. Highly, highly recommended.

“Get on board early before this group becomes Jools Holland’s latest discovery and they go all ‘arena’ out of reach!” MAVERICK

“A marker has been placed down that Orphan Colours intend to create some waves in 2018” THREE CHORDS & THE TRUTH

“All On Red is an album that pulsates with a fierce energy” AMERICANA UK

“as stunning a debut album as you’re likely to hear this year, or any year for that matter.” FATEA

Steepways

Songwriters Blair Chadwick and Charlie Bateson first met in London in 2013, when Blair was sleeping in a kitchen in Covent garden and Charlie was active on the London Americana circuit.

Meeting at the now sadly deceased Gladstone Pub in Borough, it was a meeting of minds and kindred musical spirits that sparked a song writing session which bore fruit early with the EP “Shake off all the Blue”. The pair were known then as ‘The AAA Revue” and have played with various singers, bass players, drummers and pedal steal players searching for their sound.

Fast forward to the Spring of 2016, after a particular “creative” week away with a group of superb musicians (who would later play on their debut) Charlie and Blair rechristened the band to ‘Steepways” in honour of their spiritual secret location in Stroud.

In the summer of 2016 (in the middle of Brexit) ‘Steepways’ practically moved into Reservoir Studios in Crouch End where under the watchful steer of the super talented Chris Clarke (owner, producer, Danny and the Champ, and all round top bloke) – Steepways produced their debut album – “Holy Smoke”

Featuring Chris on Bass, the superb chops of Jamie Shaw on Drums and all things percussion, ‘Holy Smoke’ also saw Darren Buddell on inspired Lap and Pedal steel. Vintage Organs and Vocals were dealt with respectively by the talented Andy Fairclough (Danny and the Champions of the World) and Siobhan Carr (Alabama 3)
